Sedona, a yellow lab living in the Portland Metro area, anticipates going outside for her daily walk. Due to COVID-19, she has been able to go outside more often as her family members are with her most of the day. Ready to leave, Sedona inspects her surroundings in the car before departing to the nearby city park. It has started to rain, creating a slightly tense yet pleasant mood. At the destination, Sedona poses while looking onward father down the trail while standing in front of the vehicle that just brought her there. The rain has scared away most of the trailgoers, creating her own temporary utopia.

It’s a cold night at Rieke Elementary on 16th of November, student athletes are packing up after a late night practice, and coaches are collecting equipment before leave. For more than two months, Lincoln’s student athletes have been doing in-person training, having started at Jackson Middle School and then switching to Rieke Elementary School with practices from 4:00 to 5:30 and even 7:30 to 9:00. (Photo Taken November 16 21:00) A football, pair of cleats, hand sanitizer, and mask is what I need for my conditioning, of all of those products the mask is most important, it is what I and other Lincoln student athletes truly needed and still need since the beginning of in-person trainings. Wrestling, football, cross country, soccer, and other Fall/Winter sports of Lincoln High are completely required to wear masks effective immediately since the start of their trainings, signing a survey two hours prior to the trainings and being temperature checked, as it is the only for student athlet

On this pleasant Saturday morning, my close friend Gus Herman takes on this mountain biking adventure at bachelor bike park. Here we can see him zooming down a steep and narrow trail on his pimped out mountain bike. "It was a pretty crazy day" he proclaims a few weeks later on a facetime with me. "I wish I could go back soon."     Two friends look out onto the pacific ocean on a chilly Sunday morning. "You see that cargo ship?" my friend Rohan ask. "Yeah that's sick, I wonder where its heading." Jonas answered. They hopped over a gap of water to a rock further out to get a better view.      Just a few hours later, these friends have already gotten closer. You can see here they are standing on top of a big rock they climbed and are posting up for a picture that would later be going up on Instagram. This picture is honestly a mood, pajamas, bag of chips, sweatshirts and flip flops. All taken on a cold day at long beach in Washington.

Photojournalism Essay by Nina Mink

On a cloudy day, Nina, a sophomore at Lincoln High School, looks out into the forest, gazing upon the colorful leaves. Nina was standing on the deck of her relatives´ home looking out into the view to see how it has changed since she has last been there. ¨It really has been a long time,¨ Nina stated, ¨it has been about 5 years.¨ When walking out of the Barnes and Noble, Nina spots a dragonfly on the antennae of the car. She fails to make an attempt to get a clear shot because the camera won't focus. When Nina found herself focusing on the dragonfly, she noticed the insect´s blue color. Dragonflies remind Nina of her mother, which is why she decided to take a picture. “Dragonflies are interesting insects,” Nina comments, “I read that they could fly backwards too.” Jackie, Nina’s grandmother, is stuck in traffic. Looking up, she spotted a sign from above. A traffic sign warned everyone to stay at home due to COVID-19. 2020 has been a year of pain and suffering, however, a bit of hu

On May 9th, a family takes a hike at Silver Falls, just as the early morning sun peeks through the trees. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, outdoor treks were becoming a common routine.   At the turning point of the trail, the cascade of a thunderous waterfall sends droplets flying in every direction. With the additional morning mist, hikers had to be cautious of the slippery, rocky outcrops. Small creatures can be found at any point on the journey, boasting elegant, intricate outer shells. The snail had most likely came out in search of the damp, humid weather.

A group of koi fish lazily swim through the crystal-clear waters of the koi pond at the Portland Japanese Gardens. In a time where almost everything is uncertain, something that we can consistently count on is the beauty that is all around us. Even in an urban setting such as Portland, we have been surrounded by clear skies, beautiful forests, and amazing parks. As long as people wear a mask and socially distance, there has been a place for them out in that beauty. The sun starts to set over a group of massive evergreen trees in Washington Park in late October. It is amazing that such massive amounts of natural beauty are built into the city. In most urban settings, it is all buildings and concrete, but Portland's unique layout lets nature thrive anywhere and everywhere. A display of the perfectly pruned trees and properly raked stones sit in perfect order at the Portland Japanese Gardens this past month. The garden has been an incredible attraction for both tourists and locals f

On a sunny afternoon on 10/29/2020, a house on SW 124th Ave in Beaverton, Oregon, is decorated with a Slim Reaper for Halloween. Some people decorated their house, pulled out their costumes from last year and stocked up on sweet treats, however there are people who are skipping the Halloween tradition this year due to the pandemic.   On October 28th, the ingredients sit on the counter waiting to be turned into something delicious. There are no classes on Wednesdays so it was the perfect time for Isabella to bake.  On this same day, the ingredients have now been turned into a scrumptious batter that is ready to be spooned into the pan. This batter took about 20 minutes to whip up and Isabella enjoyed eating the chocolate chips in the process.    Later that day, after being stirred and mixed, a tasty chocolate chip banana is ready to be eaten. When Isabella finished her homework she ate the banana bread as an afternoon snack.
