Photojournalism Essay by Nina Mink

On a cloudy day, Nina, a sophomore at Lincoln High School, looks out into the forest, gazing upon the colorful leaves. Nina was standing on the deck of her relatives´ home looking out into the view to see how it has changed since she has last been there. ¨It really has been a long time,¨ Nina stated, ¨it has been about 5 years.¨

When walking out of the Barnes and Noble, Nina spots a dragonfly on the antennae of the car. She fails to make an attempt to get a clear shot because the camera won't focus. When Nina found herself focusing on the dragonfly, she noticed the insect´s blue color. Dragonflies remind Nina of her mother, which is why she decided to take a picture. “Dragonflies are interesting insects,” Nina comments, “I read that they could fly backwards too.”

Jackie, Nina’s grandmother, is stuck in traffic. Looking up, she spotted a sign from above. A traffic sign warned everyone to stay at home due to COVID-19. 2020 has been a year of pain and suffering, however, a bit of humor can be very comforting in this time of need. “Have you heard of the phrase: A sign from above? Well, now some people are encouraged to really believe it.”
