It’s a cold night at Rieke Elementary on 16th of November, student athletes are packing up after a late night practice, and coaches are collecting equipment before leave. For more than two months, Lincoln’s student athletes have been doing in-person training, having started at Jackson Middle School and then switching to Rieke Elementary School with practices from 4:00 to 5:30 and even 7:30 to 9:00. A football, pair of cleats, hand sanitizer, and mask is what I need for my conditioning, of all of those products the mask is most important, it is what I and other Lincoln student athletes truly needed and still need since the beginning of in-person trainings. Wrestling, football, cross country, soccer, and other Fall/Winter sports of Lincoln High are completely required to wear masks effective immediately since the start of their trainings, signing a survey two hours prior to the trainings and being temperature checked, as it is the only for student athletes to be allowed to train in groups. A girls soccer team split up half the field of Forest Park for recreational use on the other side, all still wearing masks and making sure to stay socially distanced. Athletic groups outside of PPS athletics have also been continuing their practices, mainly soccer teams and basketball, still taking precautions due to the pandemic. (Photo taken November 11 17:05)
