Story Telling: fling my friend off their skateboard

Image
I told a story about the time I destroyed my friends backpack and hurt him by stepping on his skateboard flinging him off and the reason why I chose to share this this story is because I learned a lot after this experience, and matured more. Telling this story to my peers was a bit tough because it didn't have much substance to it so I had to try and elongate it without notes so it was a bit tough but luckily it was in front of a few people so I didn't get too nervous while doing it, I also learned a the good the bad and the funny of my classmates lives so that was ultra fun.

Storytelling: Highlights

Image
By Kelsey Nelson My story was about how my mom putting highlights in my hair over summer went terribly wrong but then I ended up going blonde (because orange is kind of close to blonde) and I like it better than being a brunette. I chose to tell this story because I made a mistake that actually ended up going well in the end because I like my hair better now. I decided on my story the day we had to practice to a partner because I could not think of anything before and then I was playing with my hair and I realized, oh I could write about dying my hair blonde. It was kind of awkward at first but then when you got into the story and people starting giving you their reactions, you felt a lot better about telling somebody a story they didn't ask to hear. I learned that I'm not very good at telling stories on the spot because I stutter sometimes, my face gets red and I just feel uncomfortable. But, my classmates are very nice and they seemed to like my story which is cool. Yes...

Story Reflection Cliff Jump

By Kevin Gochee My story took place in the beautiful coast town of Costa Brava. My soccer team and I were finishing up our two week long soccer tournament in Spain by enjoying a couple of days on the beach. Cliffs were everywhere and the sky was crystal clear. Every-time I told my story I changed small details. I was incorporating peer feedback into my story while also searching for different ways to make specific parts more interesting. I ended up focusing on the main scenes in my story and adding lots of detail. Telling a story to my peers without notecards was interesting. Without cards to hide behind, I was forced to use body gestures to explain my story. Also, it was extra personal when your sharing directly with only one or two people.

Storytelling: Chuck-E-Cheese

Image
By Anabella Wilkinson I decided to tell a funny story about my brother when we were younger. This story takes place in a Chuck-E-Cheese when he not only pees himself but then gets naked and left with me in a photo booth. I decided to tell this story because it isn't only hilarious but also says a lot about my brother and family. In general although it was scary to tell a personal story in front of people you don’t know at first, once I eased into it it was surprisingly very fun. I got to open up to people, learn a little more about other people and enjoyed listening to many stories. However it could also be very nerve racking to tell a story to people you don't know super well.  This storytelling was not only exciting but also super fun. I think it helped many people talk to classmates they don’t usually talk to and open up. In general I would say the class opened up and got closer together with the storytelling unit.

Storytelling: My relationship with my brother

Image
By Leela Moreno I told my story about my brother. I talked about how our relationship was before he went to college, and how it changed when he left. I chose to tell a story about us because we have a really good relationship and I wanted to honor that. It's also a way of feeling like he's in Portland even though he's across the country. He is also a really easy person to talk about, so telling stories about our life comes easily to me. Telling the story wasn't super hard for me. I am a pretty comfortable public speaker, so I wasn't worried. I enjoyed telling it. It was nice when people laughed or reacted in some way to what I said. I learned how welcoming and kind all of my classmates are. Everyone in this class is super supportive of everyone else. I think this project helped us build connections. I think we all learned a little about everyone's life outside of class.

Storytelling: Capture the Flag

Image
By Alexander Rozas My story was about my elementary schools' epic capture the flag games when I was in 2nd grade. I was picked near last and decided to fake whose team I was on. I slowly walked backwards to my opponent's flag and put myself on guard duty. I waited patiently until I was left alone, and a clear path back to my side was open. Once a space opened up, I grabbed the flag and sprinted back to my side. Once I made it safely to my side, the opponent team argued that I was on their team and couldn't just betray my team. I argued that I wasn't on their team and in the end they ruled I was on their side at the start of the game and didn't count the point. This story came to mind because one, it makes me look cool, and two because it was one my earliest athletic success stories. I wasn't the most athletic kid and this was a rare occurrence that I was able to beat kids older and faster than me. At the time, it was one of my proudest moments, of cou...

Storytelling: Becoming a Survivalist

Image
By: Ainsley Webb My story is about a time when my siblings and I wanted to become survivalists. One day, back in 2007, my siblings and I were bored out of our minds so we built a fort in our dad's closet. We decided that we couldn't leave the closet no matter what, including going to the bathroom. So we brought in a watermelon water jug that we used as our bathroom. And from there is when our dad found us and got really mad. We were in very big trouble, he made us clean the jug. But in the end, we just threw away the jug and we learned never to do that again. I chose this particular story because stories about your past can be really interesting and can tell a lot about someone's personality. Also, I chose this because it is overall a pretty funny story and it shows how stupid kids can be while growing up. My experience sharing this story with no notes was a really positive experience because you can show your actual emotions and remember the story in a way that could...
