Storytelling: Highlights

By Kelsey Nelson

My story was about how my mom putting highlights in my hair over summer went terribly wrong but then I ended up going blonde (because orange is kind of close to blonde) and I like it better than being a brunette.

I chose to tell this story because I made a mistake that actually ended up going well in the end because I like my hair better now. I decided on my story the day we had to practice to a partner because I could not think of anything before and then I was playing with my hair and I realized, oh I could write about dying my hair blonde. It was kind of awkward at first but then when you got into the story and people starting giving you their reactions, you felt a lot better about telling somebody a story they didn't ask to hear.

I learned that I'm not very good at telling stories on the spot because I stutter sometimes, my face gets red and I just feel uncomfortable. But, my classmates are very nice and they seemed to like my story which is cool. Yes I think it helped us grow as a community because I learned more about people from their stories and people learned more about me and it just helped us communicate.
