Middle Eastern Cold War

By Owen Adams

In this editorial cartoon I wanted to give a brief diagram of what is happening in the Middle East. This is a pressing issue in today's world and it seems like a good majority of people I’ve talked to have no idea what is happening. People have heard bits and pieces about different things and have ended up with a mixed patchwork of the proxy war going on in the Middle East and I felt the need to fix this with some basic knowledge of what’s going on.

For this cartoon I decided to use photoshop to illustrate what is happening between the main actors in this war. Saudi Arabia with US backing, as we give them guns in exchange for billions of dollars, and Russian backed Iran, gaining less guns, but more pressure and a world superpower behind them. I used labeling to help readers understand more about what was going on, as well as exaggeration to allow people to understand who is doing what in this war.

Overall this assignment has helped me in my understanding as the Middle East by making me learn more facts to get a more accurate depiction of what is going on, as well as give me understanding about more topics while deciding what to do for this assignment.
