Artist Statement

I was mainly motivated to draw this cartoon because the older I get the more I realize how much vaping and juuling has swamped our schools nationally. That's when I started realizing that many students don’t even realize how much it can actually damage your body overtime, especially since it’s new. Therefore I wanted to raise awareness about this problem to as many people as I can.
First to make my cartoon I wanted to show the difference throughout the decades with how kids would play. That’s why the first image was two kids playing with a simple ball. The second was kids starting to watch TV and eat some candy. Including the final one which was kids vaping. I think my cartoon had labeling starting with the years at the top and what the shops were selling depending on the year. However there was also some irony because the future is supposed to better although instead things were slowly getting worse as time passes.
While coming up with these ideas I realized how big of a problem this really is. I always hear momentarily how bad it is and people questioning what they're going to do about this problem. That's when I realized how easy it is for many students, especially in public school to get sucked in to drugs and many other bad things.
