Editorial Cartoon: All-female spacewalk

It was important for me to make my editorial cartoon about something inspiring. This is why I drew the all-female spacewalk. I wanted to make a cartoon that represented an all-female face of power that shows people how far we’ve come as an international society. Women used to be denied work because of their gender but now they are revolutionizing the world with the things they do. All of these amazing things women are doing was my main motivation to make this cartoon.

At first, I had many different ideas for my cartoon.
There were so many things I wanted to illustrate but couldn’t figure out the best way to do it.
But, my all-female spacewalk idea was the one that came together the best in my mind.
Using comparisons and symbols, I compared the first ever spacewalk to the spacewalk
we are having this year.
My message was that in the 1960’s we didn’t even allow women to be involved in
giant milestones and discovering new places,
but now more and more women are doing things that move the nation forward.
It was hard to solidify a topic for this project, but this idea was by far the one
I developed the most out of all of them and had the most clear message.

By creating this cartoon, I learned that not all ideas need to be fully understandable
when having them.
It’s ok to have multiple thoughts and expand on them.
In addition, I learned that research and knowledge is key when making editorial cartoons.
Knowing even a basic amount of facts helps so much in the long run
and makes your cartoon so much better.
Also, you don’t need to be a good artist to do editorial cartoons.
It just requires passion about your topic, determination, and patience.

  1. I really like that your cartoon is positive instead of only focusing on negatives. Its really well done Also your font is in two different colors, so i would quickly go back and edit that.
