College Admission Scandals-Editorial Cartoon
By Janie Phillips
I drew this editorial cartoon about the admissions scandals because it’s an issue that affects many students at Lincoln and across the country. I think it’s important to highlight the unfairness and bias within the college admissions process because so much of our generation will have to deal with it.
When making the cartoon I used the symbol of a mug with the USC logo to represent the university. It was one of the schools greatly involved in the scandal and my intention was to portray a student trying to get into USC and their list of important factors. I used irony when one of the items on the list was bribe money in order to be admitted.
The process of brainstorming and creating an editorial cartoon taught me a lot about the factors that make an editorial cartoon impactful. Before this project I had only been the viewer of editorial cartoons but it was interesting to understand the techniques behind them.

I love the use of irony in your cartoon. Your message is very pointed and clear.
ReplyDeleteIt is very clear the message you are trying to make and the subtle labeling in the mug is cool. Nice cartoon!
ReplyDeleteI love the exaggeration in the cartoon to clearly get your point across. I would have liked if all the text fit on the white page, but otherwise I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI loved the originallity of this cartoon! You might want to go back because the words fall off the page.
