Students from advanced mass communications (the staffs of Beyond the Flock magazine and Cardinal Times newspaper) along with yearbook staff, attended the Northwest Scholastic Press Fall Media Day at the School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) at the University of Oregon in October to take workshops taught by industry professionals.

After a keynote address from Alexa Tieu (Fox Sports Arizona) students attended four workshops of their choice such as Smartphone Video Tips, Writing Feature Stories Friends and Family Will Notice and The Look, The Story, The Images: Foundations of All Great Yearbooks.

Students interested in attending UO for college learned more about the award-winning programs at the SOJC by attending a workshop session with a college counselor and taking a tour of Allen Hall.

The final session of the day was the awards ceremony for Best of Show. Beyond the Flock magazine came in third in the magazine category and the Cardinal Times came in first in the newspaper category.
