Photojournalism Essay by Cole Tomlinson

Five high schoolers at a pumpkin patch days before Halloween to find a pumpkin to carve. We all had our ideas of what we wanted to carve and chose pumpkins based on that.

My pumpkin is now a jack o’ lantern after hours of scraping pumpkin guts in order to prepare my house for Halloween as it is in a few days. I washed my hands countless times as the weather was freezing at the time.

We finish our Jack o’ Lantern’s, the major staple of Halloween and put them out on our porch for the 31st. We used knives and markers to carve the faces out and during COVID season, it’s nice to have these small wins.

  1. Very interesting cut-lines.

  2. Strong storytelling in photos and cutlines. I like the contrast between day and night and photos of people and of pumpkins.
