Storytelling: Taxi Ride
By Kate Haddon
For the storytelling project, I told a story about the time I was in New York with my best friend, and we ended up in a taxi we didn't feel safe in. We ended up walking three miles in the dark through the streets of Manhattan all alone. Additionally, my story was just about traveling safe and knowing when to get out of a situation you don't feel safe in.
I chose to tell my story about being in New York because not only did this just happen a few months ago but it is something I will always remember. I also had a really hard time figuring out what story I wanted to tell and this one of the only things I thought of. Finally, it seemed very fitting as I learned a very important lesson from this experience.
I am not a very comfortable public speaker so telling this story in front of the whole class without notes made me very nervous. Although when I began to tell my story it wasn't that bad. Not only had I told the story many times before, but it wasn't a very serious setting and I felt very at ease. Overall I think this unit helped me grow personally, because I'm better at public speaking, but I also think it helped me learn more about my classmates.
