Starting high school is a stressful time for everyone. New classes, new classmates, and more homework is a recipe for stress. For Ibby Andersen, what some would call a nightmare, she just calls a little more challenging.
Andersen moved into the Lincoln school district the summer before 8th grade. Leaving all of her friends behind, she came into Lincoln excited, but very nervous.
“Yeah, I came here knowing no one, so it was a little bit more challenging for me in the beginning…” says Anderson.
Like most students, Andersen knows about pressure and stress in high school, even as a freshman.
“I’ve heard that eventually in high school, there’s a lot of pressure put on you,” she said. “But I also feel like a lot of teens have a lot of pressure now”.
Andersen speaks about her personal experience dealing with stress.
“I can get anxious about school and friends and all that.”
Many students have more difficulty finishing homework than others, and with the added time of sports and after school activities, homework can be an overwhelming amount. Andersen explains that it doesn’t take a lot of time to finish her homework, partly because she isn’t currently in a sport, but she has friends that have to balance sports and a load of homework.
“Some students take different amounts of time to do their homework,'' Anderson says.
Since Andersen knows the struggle of time management for homework, she has some solutions for the problem.
“FLEX days are really good because then we get time to work,” she says.
Andersen also describes how teachers have helped with the homework load at Lincoln so far, by letting students work on their homework in class.
Going into high school can be scary, especially for new students, but luckily Andersen has advice from her experience.
“I just was social and everyone was really really nice here and outgoing, and so far the teachers seem down to earth and they’re nice about helping with things.”
