Players Rights in NCAA Editorial Cartoon
By Skylar DeBose
My dad has always had a very strong connection to basketball, and because of him I have become very interested in NCAA men’s basketball. In the past year I’ve noticed how much money the NCAA makes because of men’s basketball, but the lack of money that is given to the players themselves. I feel that this is extremely unfair to the players, and that actions should be taken to allow the players to make a profit off of their hard work.
I’m not someone who loves to draw or is very good at it, so I wanted to make sure that my editorial cartoon had a strong clear message without having great artistic skill. In order to make my art skills look a little better than they are, I used a tutorial online that taught me how to draw a simple man. I also used lots of labeling to clearly show who was who, and I even used text bubbles to add more analogy to my cartoon.
By creating an editorial cartoon I learned that you can easily create something simple that has a powerful message. This assignment taught me that it’s not always about your art skills, and art isn’t the only way to present your ideas and beliefs.
