In episode #1244 of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Arctic explorer and Lincoln High School graduate Colin O’Brady describes his experiences completing the first ever solo trek across the frozen continent of Antarctica. Rogan draws out all of the brutal details from O’Brady about his trip. The episode runs a little over two hours long, but will keep the viewer engaged the entire time.
I really enjoyed watching and listening along with this episode of the Joe Rogan Experience because it was really intriguing to listen to an alumnus of the high school that I attend talk about his life as an endurance athlete. It was cool to know that we have a shared experience. I also found it interesting to learn about the psychological aspect of trekking across Antarctica. Obviously the expedition would be physically grueling, but O’Brady speaks about how he would go through mental flow states in which hours felt like minutes.
During the podcast, O’Brady wonders if his “physical expression of this [trekking across Antarctica] will inspire other people to innovate, create, and do amazing things in the world.” I would advise Lincoln students to watch or listen to this podcast especially this year when we are celebrating our school and alumni for Lincoln High School’s 150th anniversary. It truly shows that any student can do whatever they put their mind to.
