Senior Madison Fassiotto reflects on her past 4 years at Lincoln

Senior Year: freedom, responsibility, adulthood. In movies, senior year is painted as the best grade of high school, filled with friends, partying, drama and relationships. But does it really live up to that?
Juggling cross country, track, her clubs and her grades, senior Madison Fassiotto is glad to be on the homestretch towards the end of high school. Describing her time at Lincoln as both stressful and fun, Fassiotto has advice for younger classes.

“It has been really enjoyable...it’s really fun because there’s a lot to look forward to,” said Fassiotto. “I’m incredibly excited to graduate.”

But with senior year also comes the stress of filling out applications for college. “The deadlines are coming up really quickly and it’s a lot of pressure to get everything done. The to do list is never ending,” said Fassiotto. Another stress to deal with as a senior is figuring out where you want to go to college.

“I plan to got to college...someplace either in Washington, Oregon or Colorado and hopefully I would pole vault or run for them,” said Fassiotto. But college isn’t the only thing on the senior’s mind.

“I run cross country and track and I am in post 58, a mountaineering club”, explains Fassiotto. As she was a team captain for track her junior year, she assumes she will inherit that responsibility again this year. When asked if there would be more pressure on her this year she said that she didn’t think so for cross country but that for track it was very possible because it’s “more my sport.” But, sports and clubs aren’t the only stress that Fassiotto deals with.

“I’m in IB English, IB Psych, and IB Environmental Systems,” explained Fassiotto. “I’m not full IB and my classes are a lot easier this year.” “Without IB Math SL I’m thriving (laughs).” When asked if she wished she had gone full IB, Fassiotto replied very quickly. “No, because I have the freedom to choose what fun classes I want to take.”

When asked about how it felt to be a senior, Fassiotto claimed that it was “just great. I feel like a queen (laughs).” “I do feel superior in the halls.” Fassiotto says that her favorite year at Lincoln so far was probably her junior year.

“I think… freshman year was really fun but junior year was fun because the friends I made... I feel like those are more like my friends that I’ll stick with for a long time and I just like learned a lot about like how hard it was and everything.”

But, there are a few changes Fassiotto would like to see at Lincoln.
“If I could change one thing about Lincoln I would change the stigma around like state schools and going to college and like the competition of it all,” she says. As for advice, Fassiotto explains that doing your work right away is key.

“You shouldn’t procrastinate anything because it’s a lot when it comes down to it. Balance, just balance everything,” she advises.

Madison’s final advice is to make sure you appreciate your years at Lincoln. “Enjoy the moment. High school goes by so fast.”
