Special effects are usually used for movies, tv shows, or professional works. For Daniel
Hashimoto, however, special effects are a way to have fun with his kids. His YouTube channel, Action
Movie Kid, has over 800,000 subscribers, and for good reason. This man is a special effects legend.
Each of his videos involve his son James playing and going on imaginary adventures. At
first, it looks like just a family video, until the things James imagine actually happen. Playing
with a toy lightsaber? He accidentally slices a hole in the sofa. Pretending to be batman? He
gets stuck on the ceiling with his grappling hook. Playing the floor is lava? Well, you know
what happens there.

Daniel got his special effects skills by working at Dreamworks, where he helped animate ‘How
to Train Your Dragon’ and ‘Kung fu Panda 2’. He uses Adobe After Effects for the special effects in
his videos. And with a new video every week, you’ll never run out of childhood magic.
