By: Ainsley Webb Q: How long do you think quarantine will last? A: I hope that quarantine won't last past May, but I think that it's definitely possible that it could last until summer. Q: How have you personally been affected by the coronavirus? A: Luckily no one that I know personally has gotten the coronavirus, but for me it's been hard not being able to hangout with friends and having to stay at home all day. Q: What are some ways you have been keeping busy? A: To stay busy I've been binge watching a lot of movies and TV shows and working out. Q: What is your opinion on online class? A:I think online school is a good way to keep our brains refreshed and connect with our teachers and classmates. But it's also been confusing for me at times because I'm getting a lot of different directions and expectations from all of my teachers. Q: What are you going to do once quarantine is over? A: When quarantine is over I'm looking forward to getting t

By Mackenzie Ward How have you been feeling about quarantine/social isolating? What's hard for you? What's easier? For me personally, quarantine and social distancing has been pretty hard. It's difficult for me to be without a schedule or structure and without my normal routine I'm finding myself quite overwhelmed.  Photo courtesy of Kate Franzen What have you been doing to keep yourself busy?  I've mostly been reading and watching Netflix as well as taking online dance classes and face-timing my friends in order to stay busy.  How do you feel about online learning? What has your experience been like so far?  I think online learning is kinda weird and it's harder for me to focus while at home learning from a computer screen. Having less one-on-one time with my teachers has been an adjustment and it's harder to get the exact help you need while doing online learning.  What are you looking forward to the most after quarantine/soci

Photo credit: Annabella Wilkinson By Bailey Armstrong When do you predict social distancing to end? Honestly, I’m not sure. I think at least from 1-3 months and possibly more. If social distancing was lifted for one afternoon what would you do? I would immediately go see my friends and everyone I could, go to downtown and have fun outside in the sun. I would also go to play tennis because I miss that very muc.h What is the weirdest way you have been passing your time? The weirdest thing, probably playing solitaire with my brother and just dance. How do you feel about closing schools for the rest of the school year? I’m devastated and sad that I won’t be able to see my friends, miss out on freshman experiences, say goodbye to everyone and play varsity tennis like I was planning to. However, a part of me is a little intrigued. If you could have one class still in person what would it be and why? I would still have Spanish class because not only is it interesting, a

A: To pass the time I've been playing a good amount of video games, exercising, going on walks with my dad, reading, messing around on my computer, and passing the ball around with one of my friends. 2. Q: How have you been affected by the virus? A: I have not personally been affected by the virus and none of my immediate family has gotten it. Although, one of my mother's close friends from childhood father has died from the virus. 3. Q: What do you think about online learning? A: I enjoy the reduced amount of work during online learning, but I do miss seeing some of my friends. I do enjoy being able to go outside the same day during school besides soccer practice. 4. Q & A with Mackenzie Ward

By Kate Franzen How have you been feeling about quarantine/social distancing? What's been hard? What's been easier? At first, I thought quarantine would be fun since there was no school and I'd get to hang out with my friends, but after learning that I couldn't hang out with my friends because they were all self-isolating I realized how serious this pandemic actually is, and isolation wasn't really fun anymore. It's easier for school because I get more time to work on homework but it's harder because I don't have a set schedule to follow. What have you been doing to keep busy? I've been watching a lot of Netflix, doing homework, painting, calling my friends, and cleaning to keep myself busy. Occasionally, it's hard to find something to do and I don't want to do my homework that I end up taking a five-hour nap. How do you feel about online learning? Online learning has its ups and downs, most of the downs include that it's

Q & A with Kelsey Nelson

By Janie Phillips Have you picked up any new hobbies during quarantine? Yeah I’ve started walking my dog a lot more and it’s really nice outside and I enjoy it so I started doing it everyday. What have you been doing to stay active during this time? Me and my sister work out a lot and we go running sometimes. What do you miss about "normal" life? I miss going out to eat, hanging out with friends, going to school normally and having after school sports. What aspect of this situation is the most stressful for you? I think the most stressful part is not knowing anything about what’s going to happen because no one knows anything for sure about this and a lot of news isn’t accurate. What are you doing to cope with that stress? I’ll just relax and keep busy to keep from worrying about how long this will go on. What have you learned from this experience? I've learned that sometimes we need some time for everything to stop so you can do things you’ve always

By: Hanna Grewe  Photo Credit: Audrey Steele  1.  What initial emotions and thoughts arose for you when you heard school would be cancelled for the rest of the year? When school was canceled for the rest the year I was really shocked because like I had to process that we had a pandemic going on so when our school was canceled there was a shock factor. I knew they were doing the right thing and I was sad and I was really happy. I was sad because I would go to my friends and like I was waiting to do some more assignments I haven’t completed for teachers and stuff like that. I knew it would be a lot harder to access classroom but I am mostly happy because there is no school. 2. What new hobbies have you picked up since we were let out of school? If you haven’t picked up any new hobbies, what have you been doing to buy the time? Since I was out of school I am I learning new instruments like the base. I’ve done a lot more reading than I usually would have and I also ha

A: To pass the time I've been reading, watching Netflix, doing online exercise classes, and solving puzzles with my family. I've also tried to be productive during school hours and finish assignments and homework. Q: How have you been affected by the virus? A: Coronavirus has not affected me personally, but there are many people I know who have lost many lives due to this pandemic, which makes me very sad and afraid. Q :   What do you think about online learning? A: For me, online learning has been harder than in-person learning. There are times where technology fails and not everything works, but I've been getting more used to it this week. Q :   Is there anything positive that has come out of this situation for you? A: A positive for me is that I've been able to spend time with my family and get more time to do things that I

By Abby Yium  Q) What do you think about online learning/school so far?  A) So far I like it due to how it gives me a loose structure and is thus less stressful than normal school was.  It's a weird yet interesting change of pace. Q) Have you tried anything new during quarantine?  A) Not really, but I have been biking more than usual and learning some cool tricks as well as just finding new ways to keep in touch with my friends. Q) What is something you want to do after quarantine is over?  A) I really just want to get back to my extracurricular and find my stride again.  I do competitive rock climbing and I know my strength is gonna suffer over this break so I'm just really excited to get back into that and start working hard again. Q) What is your favorite movie that you have watched in quarantine? If you haven't watched any movies, what is your favorite book, tv show, or other activity that you have done in quarantine?  A) I heard about this

Q and A with Tabitha Lee

Image
By: Ava Rispler Photo Credit: Tabitha Lee Do you prefer in person classes or online classes? I prefer in person classes for sure, because going to school everyday separates home and school and gives structure to my day and I also get to see my friends. What are your hopes getting out of quarantine? One thing I want to learn how to do is be able to entertain myself without screens for at least an afternoon, since that’s the one thing I’ve been doing most of the time to keep myself occupied. How are you passing the time? I'm passing the time by going on walks with my mom, learning how to drive, and facetiming friends. How has quarantine affected you? The main reason quarantine has affected me is by making me a lot more bored and lonely. When do you think we will go back to normal life? Hopefully we’ll be back to normal by the middle of the summer or at least by the start of the next school year. What has life been like not being able to see your friends and classmates everyday?

Q & A with Ava Rispler

Image
By Tabitha Lee Photo credit: Ava Rispler What's the main thing you've been doing to pass the time in quarantine? I have been watching a lot of Youtube/TV, trying to see my neighbor at least once a day to break it up and give me some socialization and spending time with my dog and family. Have you found any new hobbies or interests over the past few weeks? I have gotten into trying to fix up my old clothes because my mom made me go through my closet and doing a lot of online shopping which is a habit I would like to break. I also want to get into the hobby of making masks for medical workers but I can't find a sewing machine anywhere. What's the biggest thing you miss about school? Well, I miss the routine. I really miss having that schedule of waking up at a certain time, going to bed at a certain time, taking showers, having something to do from like 8-3 everyday etc. But I also miss my friends and classmates. Being home so much and doing all this w

H:  What do you think about online learning? L:  I don’t mind online learning. It’s not the ideal way to learn, but I think it will get better over time. It’s hard to stay motivated and focussed. Q and A with Bailey Armstrong

By Anabella Wilkinson What's the thing you've been doing most to pass the time? To pass the time I have mainly been catching up on sleep, doing schoolwork, watching Netflix and cooking. What's the best and worst thing about quarantine? The best thing is having almost total control over my day and the worst thing about quarantine is only being able to see four different people and one else in person. I also missed being busy and doing things not just at home. What are your thoughts about online school? I don't like online school because it is not as simple to reach out for help, there's no socializing, it is not as interesting as being in class and it is harder to keep track of the work you have to do. What's the first thing you plan on doing once quarantine is over? I plan on going and seeing all my friends and spending as much time not in the house as physically possible. In what ways has the situation affected you? It has put my entire life on hold.

I can't go to school, meet with friends, and go outside much as I would normally do on a break. What do you think about online learning? How do you think quarantine will last? I think that the earliest time that the quarantine would be over would be in early fall when the new school year starts. Podcast Review: PitStop Music

By Allison Thigpen I listened to Pit Stop Music, Episode 5, about Caleb Dixon, otherwise known as “Yung CED,” and the internet's effect on the music industry today. This podcast was created by Archie Barnes and Gabe Rosenfield.  Listening to this, from the get-go, I really liked the speakers' energy. They seemed serious about what they were talking about, in a natural manner. Archie and Gabes questions seemed genuine. It seemed like they were actually wanting to know a lot about the guest, Caleb.  I also learned a lot about music, specifically rap. Caleb mentioned in the beginning that he is into “old school rap”- I found that quite interesting, as I had never thought of rap as being new or old; I guess I may not know much about it.  I also learned how specific music artists like Caleb are. There are so many fine details and elements that go into their work that listeners, like me, may not be aware of.  Mostly, though, I think it is so interesting how the int

Podcast Review: Unique hobbies of students and staff

By Kelsey Nelson I listened to the podcast Lincoln Underground: Unique hobbies of student and staff by Claire Yoo, Amelia Thorpe and Sydney Ward. I liked the hobbies that the teachers had because it's interesting to know that about people and especially how unique these hobbies are. I learned about Aikido which was one of the hobbies of a student at Lincoln, and it is a form of martial arts that uses the opponents strength to your advantage which is cool. I think they did a really good job with the podcast because they managed to find really interesting hobbies and it seems like they worked really hard to do that. They made it look really easy and I think it would be fun to do one.
